Wd Blue 1tb M2 Speed 2280 Macbook Pro 2013

Apple's new M2 MacBook Pro is just days away from pre-order, and will be released on June 17, with deliveries and in-store availability to follow from June 24.

Apple not only unveiled a brand new M2 chip at WWDC 22, but also a shiny new MacBook Air to put it inside. While the MacBook Air got all the exciting upgrades, Apple has also brought the M2 chip to its current 13-inch MacBook Pro model. That means more processing power inside an otherwise unchanged product, here's a quick rundown.

Our verdict

We really like the MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022) in our review, from that piece:

The 13-inch 2022 MacBook Pro with M2 is a very curious device. You'll got a new generation chip and all the added support longevity that comes with it, but it's trapped in a chassis design that was starting to look a bit aged when the M1 chip generation first made its debut.

This is a fast, capable, and portable device, with the excellent build quality and battery life… but it launches just ahead of the M2 MacBook Air for 2022, which features an all-new, lighter, thinner design and more ports (if you take into account the MagSafe charger of the new Air frees up the second Thunderbolt port for accessories), and a slightly cheaper starting price.

Size and Colors

The Macbook Pro comes with a 13-inch screen, and is available in two colors, silver and space gray. It's 1.56 cm thick and weighs 3 pounds, exactly the same form factor as the previous 13-inch model.

Design

The M2 MacBook Pro retains the same design as the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1. Most distinctively that includes the Touch Bar, which has otherwise been dropped from the MacBook lineup. Another important distinction over the new M2 MacBook Air is active cooling that helps sustain performance for more power-hungry operations. This is one of the only distinguishing features that might make a potential buyer look past the MacBook Air and towards the Pro.

Battery life, charging and ports

The M2 MacBook Pro features two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports with support for both charging, Thunderbolt 3 (up to 40 Gb/s), USB 4 (40Gb/s), and USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gb/s). The MBP can power one external display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz.

Charging comes by way of the 67W USB-C Power Adapter. A full charge is good for 20 hours of Apple TV app movie playback or 17-hours on the web at best. The M2 MacBook Pro also has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Processor

Apple's 13-inch MacBook Pro now includes the M2 Apple silicon processor. That means an 8-core CPU with four performance and four efficiency cores, as well as a 10-core GPU and up to 100GB/s of memory bandwidth. Apple says the M2 is about 18% faster than the previous M1 chip:

With a faster 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, working with RAW images in apps like Affinity Photo is nearly 40 percent faster than the previous generation,8 and up to 3.4x faster for users who are upgrading from a model without Apple silicon.

The Unified Memory in the M2 is also faster than M1, featuring 50 percent more bandwidth. It can also be configured up to 24GB, compared to just 16GB in the M1 model.

Display

The M2 MacBook Pro has the same 13.3-inch Retina Display for 2560x1600 resolution, 500 nits of brightness, and Wide color (P3).

Storage

The M2 MacBook Pro has storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB SSD storage.

Features

Other features include the standard 720p FaceTime HD camera, a step down from the new MacBook Air with M2. The M2 MacBook Pro has stereo speakers and support for Spatial Audio, and supports Wi-Fi 6 as well as Bluetooth 5.0.

Price and release date

The MacBook Pro 13-inch will be available to pre-order from June 17, and will be released on June 24 in stores. It will start at $1,299 for the 256GB model, or $1,499 for the 512GB.

The newest and best

The 13-inch MacBook Pro now features the M2 chip but remains otherwise unchanged from the previous M1 model.
